LISTEN, below:  A Digital Detox for 24-Hours? Jim and Teri Wonder Who Will Participate

There are various dates being thrown around for an attempt to get as many people as possible to participate in a digital detox. The most popular seems to be January 22nd for a 24-hour, put-the-phone-away-day.

But will you do it? Could you do it?

Here are some new stats showing why even a short detox could be a good thing (pay attention to #3):

  1. 61% admit to being addicted to the internet and their devices
  2. The average American dedicates 30% of leisure time to perusing the web
  3. 50% of people prefer to communicate digitally than in person
  4. 67% of cellphone owners find themselves checking their device even when it’s not ringing or vibrating
  5. One out of ten Americans report depression; heavy internet users are 2.5 times more likely to be depressed

There are so many websites (more digital reading for you) with information on various ways to detox from your device, but this one is especially interesting, here.
